Some Choices For A Better Life

There were times when I wanted nothing more than to devour an entire bag of potato chips at once. Kettle or Tyrrells’ thick, hand-cooked chips are my favourite. When I was about to grab a bag, I changed my mind and went for a small cup of Greek yoghurt. It was the wisest course of action. My stomach felt like it was going to burst the week before when I indulged in some potato chips. That was the safest, if not the wisest, option. Those are the kinds of decisions we make all the time. Our best interests aren’t served by this. Every now and then, a gentle nudge is all we need.

Our lives can be improved by making these decisions.

Doing what is difficult

You may have seen the episode in which a paper company manager has to fire an employee before it’s too late. He goes to great lengths to avoid making that difficult decision. In order to avoid the awkward conversation of firing someone, he’s willing to do anything. As a manager, I’ve never come across anyone who enjoys firing someone. That’s why so many bosses refuse to fire people who should have been fired. Do the hard thing when you find yourself in a situation that makes you want to run like Michael Scott. It’s time to remove the band-aid. It’s painful, but it’s in everyone’s best interest. Relationships that no longer work but are held together by a thread are the same. In the same way, if you’re unhappy at work, you should look for another position. It’s the better decision in the long run.

Using the escalator

I’m not using this as an analogy. When I say “literally,” I mean that you should take the stairs. Honesty is the best policy, in my opinion. During the first few weeks of the coronavirus crisis, I stayed away from my apartment building’s elevators. However, even after learning that taking the elevator is perfectly acceptable, I continued to use the stairwell because it is a good thing to do. When given the chance, I take advantage of any additional walking time. If you want to get a few extra steps into your day, park your car at the end of the parking lot. There is no better option than to stay active.

Appearing inept

Why do we place so much importance on how we appear and how we sound? It’s like the hordes of Twitter users who post one-sentence updates. “I started an online business,” for example. Clichés are rehashed in a “thread,” and the repetition continues. Making a fool of yourself can be the better option sometimes. You’re not being smart if you don’t raise your hand when you have a question in class. You don’t want to appear foolish, so you keep to yourself. When I’m at work, I see it all the time. When it comes to my own group. We don’t want to make a fool of ourselves by asking a “dumb” question. That, however, is incorrect. The only blunder would be to not inquire. When you take the time to spell things out, it shows that you’re paying attention. The truth is that the majority of the population is unable to effectively communicate their thoughts and feelings. Do not be surprised if you receive an email or a text with no context. Ask that person what they mean. It’s the more sensible option.

Reading a novel

Many apps and services exist to make it easier for you to learn new things. Blinkist, for example, provides a concise summary of a book. I used to like it, but now I don’t. Nevertheless, after a while, I began to wonder, “Why can’t I recall anything I consumed on those apps?” The reason it’s like candy is that it has no nutritional value but is enjoyable in the short term. “Give me the summary!” is what people say when they want to save time. As a result of this, another person says, “Just give it to me in one word! “It’s just a show. In addition to breadth, learning is about depth. It’s impossible to replace the joy of book reading with anything else. You’re meditating if you sit down and read for an hour. You’re a thinker, a learner, and a connecter. I think that’s a better option.

Adhering to your beliefs

“Who gives a damn? Join us for a drink!” This was the Friday greeting we gave to Florent, a former co-worker who never drank. He remained steadfast. I admired his steadfast adherence to his principles. We are frequently placed in situations where we must compromise our core values in order to survive. And you tell yourself, “It’s just for today.” In the case of chocolate, this is not a problem, but it is when it comes to more important matters. The best way to keep your friendships intact is not to spread rumours about others. Not at all. If you value honesty, you will never tell a lie, no matter how trivial the situation may appear. Because it makes you feel better about yourself, it’s always better to stick to your core values.

Choose the option that returns a profit.

Because a positive return is preferable to a negative return, you’ll always choose the former option when given the choice. Is there a way to make sure you do the right thing without using a cheat sheet or trick? No. Do not search for this type of material any longer. There’s a reason why difficult things are difficult. Sometimes it takes a thousand tries before you finally settle on the better option. In this case, however, it doesn’t mean you have to quit. It’s my goal to do the smart thing again the next time I make the less-than-smart choice of eating a bag of potato chips. We all make mistakes at some point in our lives. Only a robot can achieve perfection. As a result, you should never give up on doing what’s best for you. When things don’t go your way, don’t give up. That’s also a wise decision.
