Do you ever feel as if you’re in the middle of a never-ending blur? The world is changing at a rapid pace. It’s hard to tell when you’re excited about a new opportunity and when you’re depressed for no reason. The world is filled with so much noise that it’s easy to lose track of what we’re trying to accomplish. “Wait, what was I supposed to do on this planet?” is a common question. Let’s face it: We all get side-tracked from time to time. It’s a strange world out there. There are a lot of questions about how we can always be clearer. It’s been a while since I’ve received an email like this from a reader: “It’s great to hear you talk about reducing noise and distractions in our lives. What methods do you use in order to find your concentration? “It’s an interesting question, and it got me thinking about a few things. And when I examine the methods I employ to gain perspective in my own life, there is only one that stands out. I purge my life of anything and everything that isn’t essential.
For three reasons, I do so:
There are a lot of “things” that you accumulate as you get older. Even if you’re not a hoarder or a materialistic person, as time passes, your horizons will widen. In the future, you’ll have more friends, more things, more ideas, more goals, and more wishes. You won’t be able to see clearly if you don’t watch it. You’ll have so many things going on in your life that you won’t be able to figure out what’s most important. You need to see yourself as a sculptor in order to combat that.
As your life grows, you continue to eliminate the things that aren’t necessary. Keep removing things that don’t help you achieve your goals until the day you die. Moving to a new home, having a baby, or grieving the loss of a loved one are all occasions when most of us feel the need to deep clean the house. Instead, remove everything you don’t need on a daily basis and keep doing so.
Trying to control a distracting situation is a waste of time. Do yourself a favour and get rid of it. Remove social media apps from your phone if you find them to be a source of distraction. No one can resist the temptation, so don’t bother setting time limits. Stop buying junk food if you want to lose weight. Stay away from munchies.
Your time and energy are finite. Gary Keller’s The One Thing is one of my all-time favourite books. You can achieve anything if you only concentrate on one thing at once, is the main takeaway from this book. Your three-year-old to-do list project is time to go. To say goodbye to the friends you don’t have a close relationship with is time. Remove anything that isn’t giving you a boost of energy.
In order to gain more clarity, I’d like to give this elimination strategy a try.” What can I do with it? ”
Here are three suggestions you can put into action right away.
Set a goal for yourself for the next month. Goal-setting is one of my favourite activities because it provides clarity like nothing else. Decide on one thing to accomplish this month if you aren’t sure what you want to do. Make a list of things you’d like to accomplish in the next month and write them down. Make a decision that is meaningful to you. The fulfilment of a long-held desire. However, it must be small enough so that you can begin working on it TODAY.
Invest in a time management system (read about my system here). You’ll feel better when you get rid of the things in your life that aren’t important to you. Once you narrow your focus to a single objective, you’ll see things more clearly. But how do you accomplish a goal in the first place? Having a productivity system is the best solution. A lot of our time is wasted even without it. The first step is to gain clarity, but the next step is to find a way to make it happen.
Keep a journal to record your thoughts and feelings. Reflect on your life on a daily basis. Is my destination clear?” Is that where I’m going? What is occupying my attention? What isn’t making a positive impact on my life?” Doing so will help you organise your thoughts.
Finding focus is a process, and that’s one thing I want to emphasise again and again: patience is a virtue. The situation is really more like a conflict. You have to fight every day to tune out the world’s noise. No matter how hard you try, you will never be able to maintain your concentration for the rest of your life.
You have to fight for what you want in life if you want clarity. It’s a good idea to take a moment each day to review your day and clear out the clutter. Depending on the day, the process can take as little as 10 minutes or as long as an hour. Whatever you decide to do, be sure to set aside some time to reflect on your future plans. Afterwards, begin moving in the direction you want to go.
